Història i tragèdia. A propòsit dels catalans jueus does not offer new contributions to the history of this group of our past. From macro-history to micro-history, in a sort of vertiginous zoom, this book is a reflection on the concepts used by the historians when they write history. And certainties break up when these concepts are examined in detail. Nowadays, we tend to consider history as a narrative that organizes the traces of the past to explain the present, but it can also combine from the elements of a tragedy, as in this case; and then this betrays even more the retrospectivity of the historical reality. Because real people that lived this events and the obstinate power of their mental and cultural configuration -in the shape of religious, moral, and customary ideas that shed in their different individual and collective fates- are the only certainty.
