Ed McBain fue el más famoso de los seudónimos que utilizó Evan Hunter (Nueva York, 1926- Weston, 2005) para escribir sus novelas. Trabajó como editor en una agencia especializada en representar a autores de relatos para revistas, donde empezó a escribir cuentos cortos de ciencia ficción. McBain/Hunter siempre ha tenido una buena relación con el cine: no sólo varias de sus novelas se han adaptado a la gran pantalla ("Semilla de maldad","Un extraño en mi vida", etc.), sino que además ha escrito varios guiones, entre los que destaca el de"Los pájaros", de Alfred Hitchcock.
