Mark Twain
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, más conocido como Mark Twain, nació en la villa de Florida, Misuri, en 1835. Cuando tenía cuatro años de edad, se trasladó con su familia a la localidad de Hannibal, a orillas del Misisipi. A los doce años, empezó a trabajar como aprendiz en el periódico local. Posteriormente, trabajó como impresor en varias ciudades, y se hizo piloto de un barco de vapor. Volvió luego al periodismo, y, en 1876, publicó Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer; en 1883, La vida en el Misisipi y, en 1884, Las aventuras de Huckleberry Finn. Con estas tres obras alcanzaría gran fama en su época. En 1881, escribió El príncipe y el mendigo, que es su primera novela histórica. En 1889, publicó Un yanki en la corte del rey Arturo, y, en 1905, una de sus últimas obras, El forastero misterioso. Gracias a su ingenio y sus sátiras consiguió grandes éxitos como escritor y orador. Falleció en Redding, Connecticut, en 1910.
