Contemporary Developments in Emergent Literatures and the New Europe seeks to explore changing conceptions of European identity, and the possible ways in which we can speak of a N/new Europe, in the context of a discussion of the concept of literary emergence. It gathers a group of both established and early career researchers, from diverse parts of Europe, US and South Africa, whose readings of literary texts describe a range of deterritorialized, hybrid, and heterogeneous identities. Tracing paths from the West of Ireland to Albania, from London to Mecca and Argentina, the essays collected here reveal a Europe that is porous and multiethnic, a Europe of the mind whose spatial co-ordinates exceed national boundaries and divisions. This volume provokes us to reassess our conceptions of the Old Europe, to draw from the new voices we hear in its pages a new landscape, or a palimpsestic overlaying of distinct maps.

César Domínguez (Buenos Aires, 1970) es profesor titular de Literatura comparada en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, donde fue titular de la Cátedra Jean Monnet «La cultura da integración europea» entre 2012 e 2015. Desde 2016 es asimismo catedrático honorario de literatura comparada en la Universidad de Sichuan.

Su docencia e investigación se centran en la teoría de la literatura comparada,literatura europea, traducción, cosmopolitismo, migración y literatura mundial. Sus libros más recientes son World Literature: A Reader (Routledge, 2013), Contemporary Developments in Emergent Literatures and the New Europe (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, 2014), Cosmopolitanism and the Postnational: Literature and the New Europe (Brill–Rodopi, 2015), Introducing Comparative Literature: New Trends and Applications (Routledge, 2015), traducido recientemente al castellano por Taurus con el título de Lo que Borges enseñó aCervantes: Introducción a la literatura comparada, y el segundo y último volumen de A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula (John Benjamins, 2016).

En lo que se refiere a servicios a la profesión, ha sido presidente del Réseau européen d'études littéraires comparées y director del Comité de Investigación de la Asociación Internacional de Literatura Comparada (AILC/ICLA). En la actualidad es vicepresidente de la Sociedad Española de Literatura General y Comparada, secretario del Comité Coordinador de Historias Literarias Comparadas en Linguas Europeas de la AILC/ICLA, miembro da Academia Europea, miembro del Colexio Holmiense de Literatura Mundial y asesor del Instituto de Literatura Mundial de la Universidad de Harvard.
