Jhumpa Lahiri′s prose is beautifully measured, subtle and sober, and she is a writer who leaves a lot unsaid, but this work is rich in observational detail, evocative of the yearnings of the exile (mostly Indians in Boston here), and full of emotional pull and reverberation.

Jhumpa Lahiri, nacida en Reino Unido, de padres bengalíes, pasó su infancia y juventud en Estados Unidos. Es autora de dos libros de relatos aclamados por la crítica y que obtuvieron un enorme éxito de ventas: El intérprete del dolor (1999), que le valió el Premio Pulitzer, el O. Henry Award y el PEN/Hemingway Award, y Tierra desacostumbrada (2008), que fue elegido Mejor Libro del Año 2008 por The New York Times y recibió los premios Frank O. Connor, Asian American Literary Award y el Gregor von Rezzori. También ha publicado novelas como El buen nombre (2003), La hondonada (2013) y Donde me encuentro (Lumen, 2018), el libro de artículos en En otras palabras (2015) y el poemario El cuaderno de Nerina, de próxima aparición en Lumen. En 2012 ingresó en la Academia Estadounidense de las Artes y las Letras, en 2015 recibió la Medalla Nacional de Humanidades, así como una beca Guggenheim y, en 2017, recibió el PEN/Malamud Award. Ha traducidoal inglés las novelas Ataduras y Scherzetto, de Domenico Starnone. Con Cuentos romanos (Lumen, 2023), Jhumpa Lahiri regresa al género que le dio fama en todo el mundo.
