The war of 1936-1939 lead to the political exile of many Spaniards who had fought on the republican front or defended the Republic from different ideological convictions. At times, they even fought amongst themselves, but they always shared the common ideal of fighting fascism. Many intellectuals found themselves obligated to leave the country, and in recent years there has been a growing movement to recover the historic memory of that diaspora. The works included in this book constitute a contribution to the study and dissemination of the work completed by people who were forced to leave their homeland with the hope of someday returning, yet never returned.
