Nació en Buenos Aires en 1978. Sus dos primeros libros de cuentos, antologados en Pájaros en la boca y otros cuentos, obtuvieron los premios Fondo Nacional de las Artes y Casa de las Américas 2008. Su primera novela, Distancia de rescate (2014), fue nominada al Premio Booker Internacional, obtuvo los premios Shirley Jackson y Tournament of Books como mejor libro publicado ese año en Estados Unidos y fue llevada al cine por Claudia Llosa para Netflix. En 2018 publicó su segunda novela, Kentukis, nominada también al Premio Booker Internacional. Siete casas vacías (2015), su siguiente volumen de cuentos, obtuvo el Premio Narrativa Breve Ribera del Duero y el National Book Award en 2022. Su último libro es El buen mal (2025). Ha obtenido también importantes galardones por su carrera, como el Premio Konex de Argentina por su trayectoria como cuentista, y el Premio Iberoamericano José Donoso. Algunos de sus cuentos han sido publicados en revistas como The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, Granta, McSweeney’s y The Paris Review, y han sido galardonados, entre otros, con los premios Haroldo Conti, Juan Rulfo y O’Henry. Traducida a cuarenta lenguas, Samanta Schweblin reside desde hace más de diez años en Berlín, desde donde escribe y enseña escritura creativa.
