This volume represents an exhaustive bibliographical guide, outlining references to British and Irish writers and their works in the Spanish press from the late nineteenth century up to the early nineteen-sixties.As such it seeks to provide a detailed, objective study of what aspects of English Literature were of interest in Spain before English Studies became a University discipline in the country. All state-wide newspapers and journals are covered, as are the most representative publications from the autonomous regions, especially Galicia, Catalonia and the Basque Country. Notable Commonwealth writers of the period are also included. The aim of the work is to supply researchers with a useful tool to help uncover references to specific writers and literary schools which would otherwise have remained hidden in a variety of national and regional libraries.

Nada se ha escrito hasta ahora sobre la incidencia de la literatura irlandesa en España tomando como punto de partida información recabada en la prensa periódica, sobre todo antes de la Guerra Civil. Este libro aporta datos muy valiosos que aparecieron dispersos en revistas literarias y prensa de España en español, gallego y catalan. De ese modo, conocemos articulos, reseñas, y traducciones de escritores irlandeses, en especial J.M. Synge, W.B. Yeats, y James Joyce. De igual modo, entre otras cuestiones, se analiza la relacion entre Juan Ramon Jimenez y los poetas irlandeses, la atraccion de Garcia Lorca por el teatro de Synge, o la razon por la que la literatura irlandesa tuvo una acogida especial entre los escritores gallegos . El libro es de gran interes para los interesados en la recepcion de los escritores irlandeses en España.
