Sebastián Celestino Pérez es profesor de investigación del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). Ha sido profesor de Prehistoria y de Arqueología en las universidades Autónoma y Complutense de Madrid, respectivamente (1996 -2001) y director del Instituto de Arqueología del CSIC (2013-2021). Dirige el Grupo de Investigación «Arqueología de la Arquitectura y el Territorio» del Servicio Extremeño de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación. Ha coordinado varios proyectos de investigación, y en la actualidad codirige el proyecto «Construyendo Tarteso», reconocido con el Premio Nacional de Arqueología y Paleontología de la Fundación Palarq, con el Premio de Transferencia de Conocimiento del CSIC y con la Medalla de Extremadura. Es autor de varios libros sobre Tarteso (Tarteso. Viaje a los confines del mundo antiguo. Ed. Trébede, 2014, Madrid; Tarteso. Territorio y Cultura, ed. Ariel, 2016, Barcelona; Tartessos and the Phoeniciens in Iberia, Oxford University Press, 2016, traducida al castellano en la ed. Almuzara en 2020) y de un gran número de artículos científicos sobre su cultura. Ha dirigido las excavaciones arqueológicas del santuario tartésico de Cancho Roano (1986 -2001) y actualmente codirige las del yacimiento de Casas del Turuñuelo.
