Catálogo retrospectivo del fotógrafo Miguel Trillo (Jimena de la Frontera, Cádiz, 1953), cuya obra puede encuadrarse dentro del género de la fotografía documental (aunque sus primeros trabajos tenían una clara vocación experimental), pues el origen del encuentro entre el artista y sus modelos es accidental y (casi) siempre se muestra a los sujetos que se fotografían en contextos que les son cotidianos.Desde que a principios de los años ochenta retratara a protagonistas anónimos de la movida madrileña, Miguel Trillo ha documentado la evolución de las tribus urbanas (mods, punkies, siniestros, raperos, heavies...) en la España de las tres últimas décadas y más recientemente en todo el mundo. Sus fotografías de adolescentes y jóvenes que intentan construir su identidad a partir de la asunción de determinados atuendos y/o comportamientos, reflejan también las contradicciones de una sociedad que ha experimentado una profunda transformación en un periodo de tiempo muy corto.

This book describes and illustrates, in fascinating detail, the slow and painful learning curve followed by the Allies in the mid-war years as they attempted to end the Japanese stranglehold on Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Based on the actual wartime training documents and front-line memoirs, it shows how the British, Australian and US armies transformed their tactics, attitudes and equipment to master the art of jungle warfare. In 1944-45 the Allies finally conquered the jungle environment, exploiting their new strengths and their enemy's weaknesses, to win crushing victories in Burma and on the Pacific islands.

World War II is often seen as a confrontation of technology - tanks and aircraft, artillery and engineering. But at the heart of the battlefield was the struggle between infantrymen, and the technology was there to enable them to capture ground or hold it. This second of two books on the organization and tactics of the German, US and British infantry in Europe focuses on national differences in the development of company and battalion tactics - including those of motorized units - and the confrontation and co-operation between infantry and tanks. To many it would later seem as if the rule book of war had been torn up and thrown away. The legend of German stormtroopers has proved powerful and enduring. They were central to Blitzkrieg, and Hitler styled them as elite soldiers living examples of Nietzschean supermen. However, as Bull demonstrates, these tactics did not appear out of nowhere, they represented a general shift in tactical thought during the First World War.
