Sinopsis de NO ABOLITION OF SLAVERY

In "No Abolition of Slavery," James Boswell presents a compelling argument that delves into the contentious debates surrounding slavery in the late 18th century. Written in a prose style that is both eloquent and incisive, the book offers an intricate exploration of the philosophical, moral, and economic dimensions of slavery. Emerging from the Enlightenments emphasis on rationality and human rights, Boswells work grapples with the complexities of abolition and the socio-political landscape of his time, allowing readers to witness the clash between emerging humanitarian ideals and entrenched institutional practices. James Boswell, best known for his biography of Samuel Johnson, was a keen observer of human behavior and societal norms. His extensive travels and interactions with prominent intellectuals and abolitionists shaped his views on the institution of slavery. Boswells personal background and the socio-political climate of Scotland, coupled with his intimate knowledge of the European Enlightenment, informed his nuanced approach to the subject, enriching his arguments with diverse perspectives that resonate with the struggles of his era. This book is essential reading for those interested in the historical discourse on slavery and its moral implications. Boswells judicious analysis not only sheds light on the issues of his time but also prompts contemporary readers to reflect critically on the enduring legacies of slavery. For scholars and general readers alike, "No Abolition of Slavery" serves as a profound invitation to engage with the moral complexities of freedom and human rights.

Escrito por James Boswell

James Boswell
James Boswell (Edimburgo,1740-Londres,1795). Estudió derecho en la universidad de Glasgow. Realizó numerosos viajes por Europa, en los que se relacionó además con personajes relevantes de su tiempo. Fruto de todo ello es, entre otros, Boswell on the Grand Tour: Germany and Switzerland (1763-1764), An Account of Corsica (1768) o el Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides (1785). Pero su obra mayor es la biografía de Johnson (a quien conoció en 1763) que hoy presentamos por primera vez completa en español.
