(Atlanta, Georgia, 1900-1949) Fue periodista y escritora. Poco después de contraer su segundo matrimonio, en 1926 sufrió un accidente que le obligó a permanecer inactiva durante un tiempo, lo que aprovechó para comenzar a escribir Lo que el viento se llevó. Durante diez años plasmó sobre el papel la historia de una familia georgiana, basándose en los testimonios que había escuchado contar a los veteranos confederados de la Guerra de Secesión. Obtuvo con ella el Premio Pulitzer y la inmortalidad debido al éxito cosechado por la película basada en su novela, dirigida por Victor Fleming y protagonizada por Clark Gable y Vivien Leigh.
