Kehlmann (Berlín, 1975) escriu la seva primera novel·la amb 22 anys. Abans de l'obra El mesurament del món, que l'ha catapultat a la primera fila dels narradors internacionals, ha publicar el recull de contes Unter der Sonne (1998), les novel·les Beerholms Vortstellung (1997), Malhlers Zeit (1998), Ich und Kaminski (2003) i, posteriorment, Fama (2009). Ha rebut, entre d'altres, el premi Candide (2005), el premi Thomas Mann (2008) i ha estat finalista del premi Deutscher Buchpreis. Ha estat comparat per la crítica amb Proust i Nabokov.
