André Breton (Tinchebray, 1896-París, 1966), poeta, ensayista y narrador, entró en contacto con el mundo del arte en 1916 a través del grupo Dadá. En 1924 fundó el movimiento surrealista con un manifiesto. De su obra cabe destacar Los campos magnéticos, El amor loco, Nadja o el Diccionario abreviado del surrealismo (Siruela, 2003), que escribió con el poeta Paul Eluard.
