Come spesso succede nei suoi lavori, anche Tenera e la notte e ricco di elementi autobiografici a cominciare dallattivita di Dick Diver, il protagonista, che lascia lattivita di psicologo dopo aver sposato una sua ricca paziente per vivere di rendita della sua fortuna.
