John Sutherland es Profesor Emérito de Northcliffe, en literatura moderna inglesa, en la Universidad College London y profesor visitante en Carolina Institute of Technology. Ha publicado 25 libros, ha editado otros 30 más y ha escrito muchos artículos en una gran variedad de revistas. Sus libros más recientes son The Longman Companion to Victorian Fiction (segunda edición, 2009), The Curiosities of Literature (2008), The Boy Who Loved Books: A memoir (2007) and How to Read a Novel: A User’s Guide (2006). Escribe continuamente en la prensa británica y norteamericana sobre temas muy variados. Es miembro de la Royal Society of Literature, y fue el anterior presidente del jurado del Premio Man-Booker.
