La leyenda de Sleepy Hollow es un relato corto de terror y romanticismo, escrito por Washington Irving en 1820, en su colección de ensayos e historias cortas The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon. La historia se situa en 1784, en los alrededores del asentamiento neerlandes de Tarry Town (Tarrytown, Nueva York), en un apartado valle llamado Sleepy Hollow conocido por sus historias de fantasmas y el ambiente embrujado que impregna la imaginacion de sus habitantes y visitantes.
