Escritor de novelas, folletines y obras de teatro, Alejadro Dumas (1802-1870) fue uno de los autores más famosos de la Francia del siglo XIX, y que acabó convirtiéndose en un clásico de la literatura gracias a obras como Los tres mosqueteros (1844) o El conde de Montecristo (1845). Autor prolífico, se le atribuyen más de 1.200 obras, aunque muchas de ellas, al parecer, fueron escritas con supuestos colaboradores.
