James Hadley Chase (Londres, 1906 – Corseaux, Suiza, 1985) es el pseudónimo de René Babrazon Raymond, novelista británico formado entre Inglaterra y la India, donde su padre ejercía de coronel de la Armada. Conocedor del mundo editorial y de la industria del libro, tras haber trabajado en varios eslabones del sector, en 1939 se estrenó como autor de novelas de suspense y misterio. Su primera obra, El secuestro de Miss Blandish, gozó de gran popularidad y pronto fue llevada al teatro en el West End londinense y al cine.

A partir de ese momento, la carrera literaria de Chase creció en popularidad y títulos, entre los que destacan Eva(SN, 6), Un loto para Miss Quon (SN, 205), Más mortífero que el hombre, Entre sombras, Muerte aplazada, El buitre paciente y Cambio de escena, entre otros.
