On the Soul Aristotle - Written in 350 BC, Aristotles De Anima or On the Soul is not a work on spirituality, as the title would suggest, but rather a work that could be described as one of biopsychology, or a work on the subject of psychology from a biological perspective. Aristotles exposition centers on the soul. Aristotles soul however is not the same as the common modern spiritual conception of something distinct from the body that lives on past death. Rather Aristotle defines the soul as the form or essence of a living thing which is wholly inseparable from that living being. In the work Aristotle engages in a discussion of the differences between all living things with regard to this conception of the soul including the differing capacities for nourishment, reproduction, perception, and intellect that different forms of life possess.

The title On Youth And Old Age, On Life And Death, On Breathing, given in the Medieval manuscripts, derives from the treatises opening words: We must now treat of youth and old age and life and death. We must probably also at the same time state the causes of respiration as well, since in some cases living and the reverse depend on this.Along with Plato and Socrates, Aristotle (384-322 B.C.) is one of the triumvirate of philosophers responsible for the establishment of Western philosophy as it exists today. The Nicomachean Ethics is Aristotles best-known work on this subject. It consists of ten books and is based on notes from his lectures at the Lyceum. The theme of the work is the Socratic question of how men should best live. Before Socrates, philosophy was merely theoretical. The Constitution of Athens is a thorough description of the political system of that ancient state. The treatise was composed between 330 and 322 BC and consists of two parts. The first part deals with the different forms of the constitution, the second part describes the citys institutions, including the terms of access to citizenship, magistrates and the courts.
