En estos poemas, como en otras obras de Joyce, el idioma se usa como medio de sátira, de destrucción por la burla; así Gas from a Burner, que literalmente quiere decir Gas de un Mechero, puede significar fanfarronada, dando su origen a una frese idiomatica que, sin embargo, y tal vez por la poca difusion que estos poemas han tenido, no ha obtenido la aprobacion popular, Joyce, conocedor hasta la medula del idioma ingles, gusta de crear nuevas frases o idiomas y de deshacer otras, ya establecidas, creando la confusion en el lector y la ambivalencia de sentido que todas las frases hechas poeseen, exigiendo de aquel un analisis logico del significado ultimo de las mismas; de aqui que traducir a Joyce sea muy dificil o muy facil, motivo principal por el cual se ha optado por hacer la edicion bilingue de sus poemas, para que el lector pueda juzgar por si mismo.

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a coming-of-age novel by Irish author James Joyce, which follows the life and artistic development of young Stephen Dedalus. Ulysses chronicles the peripatetic appointments and encounters of Leopold Bloom in Dublin in the course of an ordinary day, 16 June 1904. Ulysses is the Latinised name of Odysseus, the hero of Homers epic poem Odyssey, and the novel establishes a series of parallels between the poem and the novel, with structural correspondences between the characters and experiences of Leopold Bloom and Odysseus, Molly Bloom and Penelope, and Stephen Dedalus and Telemachus, in addition to events and themes of the early twentieth century context of modernism, Dublin, and Irelands relationship to Britain. The novel imitates registers of centuries of English literature and is highly allusive. Ulysses stream-of-consciousness technique, careful structuring, and experimental prose full of puns, parodies, and allusions as well as its rich characterisation and broad humour, made the book a highly regarded novel in the modernist pantheon. Joyce fans worldwide now celebrate 16 June as Bloomsday.
