Bernardine Evaristo és una autora anglonigeriana que ha conreat diferents gèneres: novel·la, poesia, ficció en vers, relat curt, assaig, crítica literària i radionovel·la. La seva obra se centra en la diàspora africana. El 1982 va cofundar la primera companyia de teatre de dones negres de Gran Bretanya, el Theater of Black Women; el 2007 va posar en funcionament un programa de mentories per a poetes de color, i el 2012 va crear, juntament amb la Universitat Brunel (Londres), el Premi Internacional de Brunel de Poesia Africana. És professora d’Escriptura Creativa a la Universitat Brunel. Amb Nena, dona, altres va guanyar el premi Booker 2019, que va compartir amb Margaret Atwood.
