Her husband Lucas believes that a dwarfish creature is stalking him, and invents histories to soothe Pam's fears. Self-styled Sorcerer Yaxley becomes obsessed with a terrifyingly transcendent reality. The narrator is seemingly the least effected participant in the ritual: he is haunted by the smell of roses, and his guilt as he attempts to help his friends escape the torment that has engulfed their lives.

M. John Harrison nació en Inglaterra en 1945. Es uno de los escritores más originales y sorprendentes de las últimas décadas. Publicó sus primeros relatos en la influyente revista New Worlds, de Michael Moorcock, en la que fue editor de la sección de reseñas hasta 1978. En su obra ha transitado por distintos géneros, desde la novela realista hasta la ciencia ficción, el terror y la fantasía épica, muchas veces combinándolos de manera única y magistral. Entre otros títulos, ha publicado las novelas El curso del Corazón, publicada en Sigilo en 2014, Climbers, Signs of Life, la saga Viriconium y la trilogía The Kefahuchi Tract (integrada por Luz, Nova Swing y Empty Space).
